Finally, the time has come when a proper Tethered JailBreak for A4 devices on iOS 6.0 is made available via new version of Redsn0w. The new version of Redsn0w not only supports tethered JailBreak for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or iPod touch 4, but also brings plethora of features which would help you to know current status of your device. It means that you would be able to know whether your device is hacktivated or deactivated in addition to saved SHSH Blobs.
Needless to say, the whole of the description on DevTeam blog focus more on SHSH Blobs than any of the new features. This is because SHSH Blobs are an important part for any iOS device owner to downgrade or retain your previous untethered JailBreak. Unfortunately, A5+ devices owners still have restrictions for downgrade from iOS 6.0 to iOS 5.1.1 except iPad 2 owners where iOS 4.x SHSH Blobs are mandatory with iOS 5.x.x.
Even if iPad 2 owners doesn’t have iOS 5.x.x SHSH Blobs, they can still downgrade to iOS 4.x from iOS 6.0. However, the flexibility to downgrade to all previous iOS versions through saved SHSH Blobs applies only to A4 devices owners. Also, if you are on iOS 5.x.x, Redsn0w would automatically fetch SHSH Blobs of the current iOS firmware installed either from Cydia or locally for pre-A5 devices even when the window is closed. If you want to know more about the current downgrade scenario, read our detailed article here.
Please note that you might not be able to restore from one iOS 5.x firmware to another if you had previously updated via OTA. This would happen because TinyUmbrella, Cydia or Redsn0w doesn’t save the OTA ramdisk images. It doesn’t apply if you actually got to that firmware through a normal iTunes restore. Somehow, if you are not sure, try out the latest Redsn0w which notifies you very early about normal/OTA restore mismatch status.
At this stage when Factory unlocks are readily available, the need for ultrasn0w has been widely minimised. But certainly, many people who still rely on ultrasn0w should know that the tweak has not been updated yet. Hence, if they had been preserving BaseBand on iPhone 4 shouldn’t update for now.
